Summary

On the cover this time, sonic trailblazer Moses Sumney is photographed by Kennedi Carter in Asheville, North Carolina, where he lives。

Our Book of the Season is Sabahattin Ali’s breathtaking romance, MADONNA IN A FUR COAT。 Published to indifference in the early ‘40s it’s become one of the biggest literary blockbusters in Turkey in recent years — and the question of how and why it went from underground legend to mass-market hit is intriguing, just like the layered narratives of the novel itself。 Contributors include: Elif Shafak, Julie Verhoeven, Liz Johnson Artur, Rob Doyle, Richard Godwin, and Kaya Genç。

An excellent treat, as always。

I really enjoy reading The Happy Reader as a physical copy。 The feel of the paper and how everything is designed and put together just gives me joy。 If the content is just thrown about in the Internet I really don't think I'm going to read them with the same focus and pleasure。 It's a prime example of how printed media can be superior in some cases and has its own role to fill。The first part is an interview with Moses Sumney by Jia Tolentino。 I never heard of them both before。 Googled Moses Sumn I really enjoy reading The Happy Reader as a physical copy。 The feel of the paper and how everything is designed and put together just gives me joy。 If the content is just thrown about in the Internet I really don't think I'm going to read them with the same focus and pleasure。 It's a prime example of how printed media can be superior in some cases and has its own role to fill。The first part is an interview with Moses Sumney by Jia Tolentino。 I never heard of them both before。 Googled Moses Sumney for a bit, and I don't think his music is my cup of tea。 The interview is decent though - bookish conversation is always welcome, and the photos are gorgeous。The second half is a collection of articles and snippets around the Turkish novel Madonna in a Fur Coat - which I have not read, but reading this edition makes me want to。 。。。more
